Why I feel my own website is better than Medium
On July 19, 2020, I started writing on Medium. At that time, I had no clue about Medium working culture. I wrote what my heart suggested & I am not a pro in writing. Maybe I believe, my experience may help and since I have diverse working experience. I belong to a little lower than a medium-class family and worked hard to pay my college fee — notably, the thrilling experience when I booked the tickets for Bangalore and never asked permission to fly.
These experiences had taught me the value of things around me and the money. But I broke when my parents died. I had to take care of my brother. One thing was evident, 9to5 job cannot provide me and my brother the life we were dreaming of since childhood. And I had to do something. I created my own YouTube channel, Website, and a Medium account. I had written 2–3 blog posts on my Website when I started writing on Medium. I was thrilled when I got 0.2 $ in 2 days of posting, yes, even with this much. At least I have started getting something.
A new hope was enough for me to keep going!
Later I got no money on Medium for a long time, and the first payment was only $0.2 on August 6, 2020. But I kept writing. In that duration, I wrote about 5–6 posts. Then, gained $0.37 in the next 1 week. At this point, I was glad.
Side by side, I was also working on my own website to get approved for Google Adsense. I didn’t post anything since I started on Medium. I was kinda demotivated because my application was rejected multiple times on Google Ads. However, I kept trying. I remember my website got approved on August 8, 2020, and I didn’t check the mail due to a lack of confidence. At last, I checked on August 16, 2020.
I was relieved and happy that I finally did it. With new confidence and hope, I started working on my website again. I applied display ads and shared another post on August 17, 2020.
Also, kept the Google Ads report open.
I refreshed the report page the next morning and found that I had earned $0.12 through AdSense. OMG! I checked again and compared it with Medium. Medium earning was still 0.37 $ though I got a lot more views. That day I wrote another post on my Website with another impulse.
Today, on August 19, 2020, 01:14 PM Indian time, my earning on Google Adsense is $1.14
And my earning on Medium is
This made me think if my own website is remarkably making more than the Medium. I believe I should rethink and understand it’s too early to judge. Let’s try giving Medium another shot.
Assured, I will keep writing on Medium. Because this is the first place to give me the confidence of earning. I would suggest you also don’t give up on anything. Try both, still DON’T STOP. You never know what becomes gold.
